AC Milan confirm interest in Manchester United outcast Rasmus Hojlund

AC Milan have confirmed they are considering a move for Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund, who was left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for the club’s Premier League opener against Arsenal.

United began their campaign with a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford, with Amorim opting to start new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in attack, while fellow signing Benjamin Sesko took a place on the bench.

Hojlund, meanwhile, was not involved at all and watched the game from the stands.

The 22-year-old, signed for £72 million from Atalanta in August 2023, has struggled to deliver consistent goals, recording just 14 in 62 league appearances.

Despite his desire to fight for a place, United have made it clear he is free to leave.

Back in Italy, however, Hojlund still carries a strong reputation from his time at Atalanta, and Milan are ready to explore a deal. “Hojlund is a good option for us,” sporting director Igli Tare said.

“We are thinking about him, but in the transfer market, you never know what could happen.”

Sources have indicated United would want around £30m for the forward, while Milan are pushing for either a loan arrangement or a reduced fee.

With the transfer window closing on September 1, Amorim stopped short of committing to Hojlund’s future when asked after Sunday’s loss. “It is our player – we have to make choices,” the United boss said.

“”We have players that have to stay helping the team from the outside. He has to fight for his place. We will see what’s going to happen. Rasmus has the same characteristics as Sesko, so sometimes we need to choose.”
