Erling Haaland continued his run of scoring in every opening day game for Manchester City since joining the club, putting them ahead at Wolves before Tijjani Reijnders doubled their advantage with a debut goal.
City had been on the back foot for periods of the first half, Wolves’ Marshall Munetsi seeing a goal rightly disallowed for offside.
Wolves failed to take advantage of being in the ascendancy, and they were punished by Haaland, who tapped in to round off a wonderful move, with Reijnders the chief architect.
The midfielder, signed from AC Milan, displayed silky footwork to jink past several Wolves players before deftly lifting the ball into the path of Rico Lewis, whose low cross was turned in by Haaland.
Haaland’s 34th-minute strike made it four successive opening-day goals for the Norway striker, and three minutes later Reijnders put City in complete command.
Wolves sloppily lost the ball in the midfield and Oscar Bobb, making only his second Premier League start, surged into space before slipping the ball into Reijnders, whose first-time finish beat Jose Sa and nestled in the bottom-right corner.
