Washington Commanders @ Green Bay Packers: Preview, prediction and odds

Preview for Washington Commanders @ Green Bay Packers

Micah Parsons is hoping for an increased role tomorrow night after a successful debut for the Green Bay Packers.

Parsons joined the Packers two weeks ago from the Dallas Cowboys and looked a little lost initially, running to the wrong end of the field in the warm-ups before not understanding the defensive unit’s pre-game handshake routine.

But the star pass rusher quickly fitted in as the Packers opened their season with a 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions, getting his first sack and contributing three pressures.

His sack came in garbage time as he hared towards Lions quarterback Jared Goff – he was tracked at 18.47 miles per hour – and brought him down near the sideline.

Parsons played in 29 of the Packers’ 65 defensive snaps – but is hoping for more after nagging team staff to keep him involved.

“I told [the defensive coaches] the other day when they were talking to me about the snap counts, it’s like, ‘Man, we could run gassers, we could be in practice and you give me these plays, we can run to the ball, but at the end of the day, you’ve got to let me push through some things,’” Parsons said. “‘You’ve got to let me get tired and get worn out so that way I can become better.’

“That’s when it was like, ‘okay, your reps can go up.’ Sometimes you’ve got to fight for your own right to play.”

The Commanders will arrive at Lambeau Field on the back of a win themselves after easing past the New York Giants 21-6.

It wasn’t a seamless display but Washington were indebted to a fine debut from new recruit Deebo Samuel.

Samuel, brought in from the San Francisco 49ers, was a favorite target for quarterback Jayden Daniels and also scored a rushing touchdown.

“The touchdown run was quintessential him,” Washington coach Dan Quinn said. “We’ve seen that movie. That was a part of the reasoning with the trade and why it was such a good fit.”

Prediction for Washington Commanders @ Green Bay Packers

The Packers are a formidable team on home turf but Samuel’s encouraging start to life as a Commander and the versatility of Quinn’s offense means we’re going for a surprise road win.

If Parsons gets his wish for more field time then that might change the complexion of the game but we still fancy Washington.

Prediction: Packers 20-23 Commanders
