Barcelona star hopes to win Ballon d’Or multiple times

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal admitted it is his goal to win the Ballon d’Or multiple times and said it will be his own fault if he never gets to lift the coveted prize in his career.

The 18-year-old, who has already amassed more than 100 appearances for the Catalan club, is one of the favourites to claim the award this year, the winner of which will be announced at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on 22 September.

Many believe the frontrunner to be Ousmane Dembele, who was instrumental in Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League and treble-winning success last season.

However, Yamal played a influential role in Barca’s own domestic treble last term, as Hansi Flick’s men lifted the LaLiga title, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Supercopa.

And speaking on the Resonancia de Corazon podcast this week, the Spanish international revealed he hopes to win the individual honour one more than one occasion and insisted if he fails to do so, he will only have himself to blame.

“I told my friends I don’t dream of winning one Ballon d’Or, I dream of winning many,” said Yamal.

“I think I’m a player who has the ability to win it, and if I don’t, it’s because I haven’t done things right or because I haven’t wanted to.

“So, I dream of winning the Ballon d’Or many times and when the day comes [that I win it], I’ll be very happy.”

Yamal has started this campaign where he left off, scoring twice and providing two assists in three LaLiga games.

Flick’s side are currently fourth in the Spanish top-flight, having won two and drew one. They are next in action against Valencia on Sunday.
