Brighton say midfielder Matt O’Riley has a future with the club after he joined French team Marseille on a season-long loan late on transfer deadline day.
The Denmark international joined Albion from Celtic last summer and started the first two games of the Premier League season before missing the win over Manchester City last weekend.
He will now join up with former Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who led Marseille to a second-place finish last season.
Manager Fabian Hurzeler said: “Matt has the opportunity to challenge himself at the highest level in France and in the Champions League.
“We have a lot of competition in the midfield positions, and while we see Matt’s long-term future here with us, this gives him the potential of more game time.
“We will monitor his progress throughout the season with Marseille, and we wish him well for the rest of the season.”
O’Riley scored three times for the Seagulls, including in the opening-day draw at home to Fulham last month.
