Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace after the South London side authorised a move in the final hours of transfer deadline day.
Eagles boss Oliver Glasner made it clear in his press conference last week that he did not want to lose his captain, but chairman Steve Parish seems to have gone over his head at the last minute.
Reports suggest Guehi is currently undergoing his medical in London, with the aim of completing a deal before the 7pm deadline in the UK.
The 25-year-old will sign a long-term contract with the Premier League champions and compete with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate for a place.
Guehi captained and scored for Palace in the 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday evening, before refusing to open up on his future when receiving the Player of the Match award.
He said: “All I know is when you score goals like that it is always down to team performance,” he said. “People will try to single out the goal but that was a clear team performance tonight.”
But it appears to have been Guehi’s final game for the club. Liverpool will pay a fee worth around £35million for the England international, who will be hoping that his high-profile move will help guarantee a spot in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad next summer.
