Erling Haaland marked his 100th Premier League appearance with a goal as Manchester City took a 1-0 lead at Brighton.
City’s Norwegian talisman entered the game having scored a remarkable 87 goals in 99 league appearances, meaning he was already sure of the record for the most for a player in their first 100 games in the Premier League.
And, after spurning several chances as City dominated the first half, he made it 88 in 100.
Haaland had fired tamely at Bert Verbruggen after being played in down the left channel early on. He was then similarly wasteful in dragging wide at the end of a well-worked City attack, Karou Mitoma having earlier forced James Trafford to turn behind at the other end.
Verbruggen was equal to a far-post header from Haaland in the 25th minute, but nine minutes later Haaland had his goal, prodding home after Omar Marmoush had worked his way through a crowd in the Brighton box.
