Reports, results and goals as PSG win thriller and Bayern leave it late

Europe’s top leagues are back in full swing and after a full day of Premier League action that saw Chelsea beat Fulham, Tottenham lose to Bournemouth and Manchester United finally get their first win of the season, attention turned to Germany, Spain, Italy and France.

Bayern Munich were in action against Augsburg, looking to continue their fine start to the new campaign.

Elsewhere, Paris Saint-Germain faced Toulouse with aspirations of making it three wins from three.

Real Madrid were looking to do the same against Mallorca, and Italian champions Napoli faced Cagliari.

Read on to see how the matches unfolded in an action-packed Saturday night.

Augsburg 2-3 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich maintained their perfect start to the Bundesliga with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Augsburg at the WWK Arena, though the champions were made to sweat after building a seemingly unassailable lead.

Serge Gnabry opened the scoring in the 28th minute, heading home a perfectly floated cross from Harry Kane. Just before half-time, Luis Diaz doubled Bayern’s advantage, converting Konrad Laimer’s cut-back to make it 2-0.

Three minutes into the second half, Michael Olise added a third with a composed finish, initially set up by Kane, giving Bayern a commanding 3-0 lead.

Robin Fellhauer’s assist, and later set up Mert Komur to make it 3-2 in the 76th minute, sparking a tense finale.

Despite their momentum, the hosts were unable to find an equaliser, with Bayern’s defence and goalkeeper Dahmen crucial in the closing stages.

Toulouse 3-6 Paris Saint-Germain

Paris Saint-Germain produced one of the most astonishing games Ligue 1 has seen in years, beating Toulouse 6-3 in a contest filled with outrageous goals, drama, and missed opportunities.

PSG exploded out of the blocks, scoring three times inside 15 minutes. Joao Neves stole the headlines with not one but two extraordinary bicycle kicks – the second even better than the first – either side of Bradley Barcola’s calm finish.

Ousmane Dembele then converted from the spot to make it 4-0, but Charlie Cresswell gave Toulouse hope with a close-range strike.

On the stroke of half-time the hosts had a golden chance to reduce the deficit further, but after two separate penalties – first from Magri, then a retake from Cristian Casseres – goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier pulled off stunning back-to-back saves to preserve PSG’s 4-1 lead.

The second half was no less frantic. Dembele tucked away a second penalty before Neves capped a night for the ages with a thunderous third goal from the edge of the area, completing a hat-trick that will live long in memory.

Even at 6-1, Toulouse refused to fold. Yann Gboho tapped in late on and substitute Alexis Vossah rifled home in stoppage time to reduce the deficit, though the result was beyond doubt.

Real Madrid 2-1 Mallorca

Real Madrid survived an early scare at the Santiago Bernabeu to edge past Mallorca 2-1, with Vinicius Junior’s brilliant strike sealing all three points in a hard-fought contest.

The visitors stunned the home crowd after just 18 minutes when Pablo Torre’s whipped corner was met by Vedat Muriqi, who outmuscled Aurelien Tchouaméni to flick a looping header into the bottom corner.

But Los Blancos found a swift response. Dean Huijsen rose highest at the far post to nod a long ball back across goal, where Arda Guler was waiting to head into an empty net and level the score.

Momentum swung firmly Madrid’s way, and soon after, Federico Valverde’s ball won deep inside his own half sparked a dazzling solo run from Vinicius. The Brazilian chopped onto his left foot and rifled a low strike beyond Predrag Rajkovic to complete the turnaround in the 38th minute.

The second half was chaotic but goalless. Guler thought he had a second when he bundled home after Mbappé’s effort, but VAR ruled it out for handball.

Thibaut Courtois was almost embarrassed when substitute Costa’s strike squirmed past him, only for Javier Carreras to clear spectacularly off the line. At the other end, Mbappe was twice denied by heroic blocks from Mallorca captain Antonio Raillo.

Napoli 1-0 Cagliari

Napoli left it late but claimed a dramatic 1-0 win over Cagliari at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa snatching victory in the 95th minute.

The champions dominated possession throughout but found clear chances hard to come by against a disciplined Cagliari side. Kevin De Bruyne and Matteo Politano both went close in the first half, while Scott McTominay forced Simone Caprile into action with a clever run and strike just before the break.

At the other end, Prati’s header skimmed just over the bar in what was Cagliari’s only real opening.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Politano fired narrowly over, Spinazzola saw an effort blocked by Caprile, and substitute Alessandro Buongiorno missed a free header from a corner. McTominay continued to look dangerous, spurning two late chances to seal the win.

Just when it seemed Napoli would be frustrated, Buongiorno redeemed himself in stoppage time with a perfectly weighted pass across the box. Anguissa arrived at the right moment and calmly slotted past Caprile, sparking wild celebrations inside the Maradona.
