Chiefs’ Rashee Rice given a six-game suspension

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has accepted a six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. With Rice’s suspension set to start at the beginning of the season, he will not be eligible to return to the field until Week Seven.

Rice was originally scheduled to have a disciplinary hearing on September 30th. Sue L. Robinson, the league’s disciplinary officer jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFL Players’ Association, was set to hear Rice’s case.

In July, Rashee Rice was sentenced to five years’ probation and 30 days in jail for his role in a Dallas-based multicar crash during the 2024 off-season that left several people injured. He later pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. The case can be dismissed if he completes probation.

Kyle Hamilton signs four-year, $100 million extension

The Baltimore Ravens announced earlier today that they had signed All-Pro defensive back Kyle Hamilton to a four-year contract extension. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the record-setting $100.4 million deal includes $82 million guaranteed and will make Hamilton the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

“Well-deserved, as you all know,” Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta told members of the media during a press conference. “Phenomenal player, phenomenal person, a great leader. I’m very, very proud of Kyle. Everything he brings to the community on and off the field, his family. We think that this really recognizes his impact on our team and in the community. We’re thrilled to get this done and get this off my plate.”

The 49ers sign a wide receiver

The San Francisco 49ers agreed on a deal with wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, according to NFL.com. This comes less than a day after he was cut by the Seattle Seahawks, even though he joined the team earlier this off-season on a one-year contract worth $5.5 million.

Is there still hope for Anthony Richardson in Indy?

The Indianapolis Colts’ general manager, Chris Ballard, said that the team is not planning to trade backup quarterback Anthony Richardson and that they are not giving up on the former number-four overall draft pick.

New England claims Tommy DeVito and releases Kendrick Bourne

After being waived by the New York Giants yesterday, the New England Patriots claimed quarterback Tommy DeVito off waivers, according to ESPN. To make room for DeVito on the 53-man roster, the Pats are releasing ninth-year wide receiver Kendrick Bourne.

Joe Mixon’s season looking murky?

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio did not provide a clear answer when asked if Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon will be able to play this season. Mixon was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list as he continues to battle back from a hurt ankle that he has been dealing with throughout Organized Team Activities (OTAs), minicamp, and training camp. At this time, he is scheduled to miss the Texans’ first four games of the regular season.

“I mean, with all the injured players, kind of take it one day at a time. So, whatever their timeline is, we kind of handle accordingly,” Caserio said during a media availability session earlier today. “I’d say the players that are on PUP or NFI, they’re out four games or four weeks. So once we get through four weeks, we’ll kind of evaluate at that time… We’ll take it one day at a time, and we’ll evaluate those players after four weeks and kind of see where they are in their progression and then make a determination.”

Adam Thielen returns to Minnesota

The Carolina Panthers are trading wide receiver Adam Thielen, a 2026 conditional seventh-round draft pick, and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings. In return, the Panthers will be getting back a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and a fourth-rounder in the 2027 NFL Draft.

Thielen could make an immediate impact for a Vikings squad that might be without several key members of the wide receiving corps to start the season. Former first-round pick Jordan Addison is suspended for the first three games of the season, while Justin Jefferson, Tai Felton, and Jalen Nailor have all dealt with injuries during the preseason.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2013, Adam Thielen earned a spot on the team’s 53-man roster in 2014, where he remained until he was released in March of 2023. In ten games last season for the Panthers, Thielen caught 48 passes for 615 yards and five touchdowns.
