Wolves forward on verge of transfer to Dortmund

Fabio Silva is having a medical at Borussia Dortmund to complete a move from Wolves worth around £29 million, according to a report.

Dortmund will pay an initial fee of around £19.4m for the 23-year-old, who was not in Wolves’ squad for their 3-2 EFL Cup home win over West Ham on Tuesday and said goodbye to his teammates at the game, The Athletic has said.

The forward joined Wolves for a then-club record £35m from Porto in September 2020 but has been loaned out four times since 2022.

Silva is set to become the third Premier League player this week to join Dortmund, who have signed Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka for £24m and Blues defender Aaron Anselmino on a season-long loan deal.

Primeira Liga winner Silva became Porto’s youngest ever player and scorer before moving to the Premier League on a five-year deal.

A UEFA Youth League champion in 2018/19, he had scored 17 goals in 37 appearances at youth level for Portugal at the time but has contributed a comparatively modest four goals and three assists in 62 appearances for Wolves.

The striker or left-winger produced 16 goals and six assists across 51 games in all competitions during loans to Anderlecht and PSV in 2022/23, then scored six times in 25 appearances during a spell at Rangers the following season.

He spent much of last season at Las Palmas, finishing on 10 goals and three assists in 24 LaLiga appearances, including three goals and an assists in five matches between March and April.

The outlet added that Wolves are closing in on signing Girona and Czechia defender or midfielder Ladislav Krejci, adding to a squad manager Vitor Pereira warned was too small before their league campaign started with two defeats.
