Bayindir howler gives Arsenal early lead at Old Trafford

An individual error from Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir has given Arsenal an early lead at Old Trafford.

The two Premier League heavyweights meet at Old Trafford for their opener, with last season’s second-placed side grabbing the opening goal.

With the Gunners on top, Declan Rice swung a corner into the box. Imperious last season on set pieces, it was more of the same from Mikel Arteta’s men, who crowded the goalkeeper in the box.

Bayindir is standing in for Andre Onana, who is not yet back to full fitness following an injury over the summer.

With the ball delivered right on top of the keeper, who was being hassled by William Saliba, Bayindir threw a rogue fist at the ball, missing it completely.

It left Ricciardo Calafiori to head into an empty net on the goal line and wheel off to celebrate.

Since the goal, United have shown signs of improvement, but are being kept at bay by a very strong Arsenal defence.
