Liverpool have failed with an opening bid for wantaway Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
The Athletic report the Merseysiders followed up an informal enquiry with a formal offer this morning which has been rejected by Newcastle.
Isak is currently training on his own at former club Real Sociedad while Newcastle are on a pre-season tour of the Far East.
