Borrussia Dortmund confirm Gittens move to Chelsea imminent

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that a deal for Jamie Gittens to join Chelsea is close to being completed.

The Bundesliga club released a statement on social media revealing that “all parties agreed” to the transfer and that contract details were in the process of being finalised.

It is believed the 20-year-old winger is set to sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge, in a deal which could see Dortmund net up to €65m (£55.9m).

Gittens, who spent some time at Chelsea as a youth player, had been a target for Enzo Maresca for some time but negotiations which Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl called “challenging” had stalled the move.

However, a post from the club on X on Thursday all but confirmed the deal: “Borussia Dortmund attacker Jamie Gittens is set to move to Chelsea FC. All parties agreed to this today in Fort Lauderdale, USA. Contract details are still to be finalized.”

Gittens moved to Dortmund in 2020 from Manchester City and made his Bundesliga debut two years later.

He scored eight goals and provided three assists in the league last term and Kehl called the fledgling forward an “outstanding player”.

Kehl said: “The talks with Chelsea were challenging, but ultimately we are pleased that we can most likely realize our financial ambitions and then have planning security

“Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of pleasure. He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success.”

The Gittens deal comes just days after Chelsea acquired the services of 23-year-old Brazilian striker Joao Pedro from Brighton for a fee in the region of £60million.
